Herbert's Heard
That Freedom Fridays is the greatest party since 1997.

Word To Herbert
I sincerely apologize to EVERYONE who waited on line for the grand opening of the Freedom party at Discotheque. We brought down an estimated 980 people, the venue's self-proclaimed BIGGEST grand opening, and we reached max capacity at 1AM. Much, much love to the Freedom family who followed us from Starfoods, who've been there since Day 1 (the Summer Boat Boogie). We loved seeing you, seeing the smiles on your faces--it's almost like we all know we've got something beautiful here, we're all a part of it, and we're all proud. And I say "we," because it is you guys who've helped make Freedom possible.

All we are trying to do is give you more room to dance, a better sound system to dance to, and more extraordinary venue to be a part of. Those were our ONLY intentions--to make Freedom a better place for you. If you had trouble getting in, it was solely due to a maximum occupancy thing (as mentioned) and we're sorry. To avoid this EVER happening again, come down earlier. Plain and simple. KNOW THIS: We will NEVER ever compromise Freedom. Still cheap to get in ($5 before 11PM, more incentive to come earlier), still relatively cheap to drink ($5 and up), still ONLY beautiful, positive, happy soulful music across all genres (including rock, on occassion), still the complete alternative to all the bullshi* parties that plague the nightlife.

Big shout out to everybody that came down (too many names to mention). Big shout to Graham, Freedom's fanciest footer (it ain't true Freedom without you, homie). Big shout to the girl who handed me a note that said "Great spot!! Much better." Big shout to the people that experienced Freedom for the first time. Some of y'all got it, some of y'all understand, some of y'all don't. Some of y'all will be back next week, even though you didn't hear 50 Cent, Fat Joe, Game, Lil' Jon, Beyonce, Ja Rule or Cassidy. And then, because we didn't play those records, some of y'all won't.

Oh well.

FREEDOM!!!

Love,

Herbert

what does it mean when you say "go back to LA"!?

What's good Herb,
It's Life......
Dude can u post a couple of my nights ?

Starting this Wed. February 2nd and every following Wed. i'll be spinning at a new spot called Tuko (pronounced TOO-KO.) It's located at 6 east 32nd St btw 5th and Madison. Dude you have to check out this space...
The sound system is definitely one of the best in the city. I mix whatever, whatever and whatever good shit is good. Music to dance and vibe to.
...Next...
Friday's at Aubette. Three years back the owner Tom Sisk (former owner of Centro - fly, and
Red Zone) approached me and hand picked me for the gig.
He wanted me to play cuts that i couldn't play anywhere else, which happens to be my forte. For three years now i've been rummaging thru the archives of my collection pulling out shit I haven't been able to play anywhere in years. The origin of the name Aubette reflects the way I format my sets. In a nutshell, a group of artists in France at the turn of the century recognized that they faced limitations when expressing their crafts. They alienated themselves from the mainstream and set-up a community
in a remote area outside of Paris, and they named it Aubette.
Upon entering the town they posted a sign that read in so many words "if you can't appreciate art with out censorship and judgement you're not welcome." I usually aproach friday nights with this type of mentality. I play what the fuck I want, and the patrons love it.
