Apologies to all who have been waiting to hear from Herbert over the weekend, but once again, my cable internet connection went doo-doo on me. Man ... for real? I may sound like your grandpa, but nothing works like it used to. So what cable internet is so fast?? Oooooh. Who cares? It only runs properly half the fricking time! My dial-up connection was NEVER a problem. EVER. (Except when I wanted to use the phone.) But this here cable junk prevented me from confirming your RSVPs. Luckily, that had little effect on a great party this past Friday.

This party is my baby, y'all. The Passion of the Herbert. It wasn't as nutty as weeks prior, but it was still loads of fun and the dance floor was packed from about 11PM till 3AM. Folks--mostly women AGAIN--singing songs and drinking and partying and dancing and if you want pictures, I have a couple I took from the deejay booth mid-mix. Big shout to DJ Blessed Productive for rocking the crowd from the gitty-up. He did his thing, and I'm thankful. The biggest hits of the night included Mad Lion's "Shoot to Kill," SoHo's "Hot," Janet Jackson's "Miss You Much" and Phillip Bailey and Phil Collin's "Easy Lover." Big shouts also to Cosi, EarCandyNYC, C. Black, Lovett Hines, Rare Form and the rest of the team for continuing on with strong support and people power. This is the official underground Friday night party. Plain and simple.

Wednesdays at Sage is deaded due to funny money. I will let you know where the party moves to as soon as Ed and Gary (from Cafe Deville Saturdays) lemme know wassup. Shout to DJ Redd Rock who held down Sage last week. Good seeing you, homie.

This Thursday, you can catch me at one of NYC's most successful, souled-out parties, Ascension/Ubiquita at Guernica in Alphabet City. It's been packing in serious music lovers, artists, poets and grownandsexy folks for 3 years now, and I have been blessed by Blessed and Lovett Hines with a little guest slot upstairs from 10 to about 11:30PM. There's no cover, no stress, so no reason why you can't come down. (At least, no reason I'm aware of.)

This just in: DJ Herbert leads the headhunters in the first annual Dodgeball Tournament Of Champions! No joke, y'all. Herbert has amassed an army of cup-wearing, ball-busting, rec-spec-rocking bloodthirsty bandits for a good ol' bout of America's most beloved indoor recreational sport. I used to love dodgeball so mucking fuch, I can't even begin to tell you. How wonderful were the days when I'd walk into the gym for 5th period and see a whole slew of balls lined up at the half-court line. This Saturday, the First Annual Dodgeball Tournament of Champions takes place at Martin Luther King High School, 66th and Amsterdam, from 1 to 5PM. There will be press crews, film crews, the whole 9 yards. Come down and support Herbert's Headhunters. Admission is free.

So is pain. Ha. Hahaha. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. (What?)

One last thing. A certain big hip-hop radio personality has been using the word "generic" lately, but unfortunately, incorrectly. I feel it is my duty as a writer (and one-time copy editor for Martha Stewart herself) to fix this problem, if not for the station's sake (this virus is running rampant through its deejay ranks right now), then for the sake of the kids who listen to him all day long. A definition of "generic": Relating to or descriptive of an entire group or class; general. (Sorry to sound like a Nerdbert.)
