This morning as I walked from 42nd St to 50th St to make a 6am yoga class in -90 degree weather, I had a deep conversation with myself.
As I got onto the elevator with other people in it, I thanked myself for having someone to talk to.

yes, I have done it many times.
It is wonderful...the benefits are real and there are so many. When you hear about sitting in a room for 90 minutes and the temperature is 100 degrees or hotter, it sounds really daunting. But once you're in there, you don't feel the heat (like that) and when you're done, you feel great.
770, it only smells before the heat is turned up to 100. If the heat is anywhere below that, you can smell all kinds of things. The only other time during class that you MAY smell something bad is if the teacher opens the window, even just a little will blow in all the cool air and make you nose smell things you thought weren't there a couple of seconds ago. The solution to that would be to be as close to the window as you possibly can (without being at risk for catching a cold). Whatever you "may smell" won't be in your nostrils for too long.
Besides, there is too much sweat and other things to do (like holding a pose) for heads to be worried about who farted, etc.
oh yeah, 770, the rooms aren't as small as you may think. They are definitely bigger than some of these studios that people live in! (the most I've seen in a room is about 40 people)
Try it...you just might like it.
(and most places charge $20 intro fee for an unlimited week of classes...can't beat that!)
I'm thinking about taking yoga. Any suggestions for a beginner?
finallly saw the Real Sports episode with the groupies. Question--shouldn't you have to be cute to be a groupie? the two girls they were talking to, one was ai'ight, the other one was busted. the girl who wrote the book was horrid. literally, she looked like a monster. i was afriad to look at the screen. and by going on this show, wouldn't the two girls just ruin any chance they had to get at dudes?
another really sad thing, they were grad students doing that shit. i was also disappointed that made it look like only a black thing. The women I saw at the ESPYs were worse better at what they did and better looking and they were ALL white. i liked how he equated athlete groupies with being the same as wall street groupies. i know women who live uptown and in BK who work out at the Wall Street or Battery Park NYSC or Equinnox just to catch a banker.

you won't have time to concentrate on other people's ass in your face when you're trying to hold a pose for longer than 10 seconds...believe me, they ain't paying attention to YOU!!
Big Vince...for you, it depends on what you want to do. If you want to cleanse yourself, you would want to try Bikram Yoga. If you just want to make sure that your muscles are toned, etc., you can try Vinyasa Yoga. Hatha Yoga (IMO) is more for those who seek the spiritual aspects of Yoga. There are so many different kinds, that it would be too much to talk about here but these are the three basic styles that people fucks with.
After I take my break from Bikram Yoga, I'm really going to focus on Pilates. My homegirl says that I should do both..but I don't have the dough. Yet.
Seriously speaking though, folks, when you go to Bikram Yoga, everyone is practically in short shorts/tank tops or bare chested (men). No one is paying attention to what you look like or how your body looks...the mental is no where in that sphere of things. SO...before you do any kind of Yoga, get your mind right. If you go into a Yoga class where someone (even you) is worried about who is cute and who smells and who is looking at you, don't go. Yoga is a mind-body-soul exercise and everything has to be in tune for you to reap the true benefits. Real Talk.

I'm more interested in the muscle toning aspects of the class. I bought a tape and book and have been trying some stuff at home. I was surprised at how difficult it is to hold some of those poses. The class will allow me to ask some questions and make sure I'm doing it right.
they do yoga classes here on the beach..i took a few classes, enjoyed it but now im 2 busy...i want 2 keep my body toned, but 4 now working out and exercises fits more into my time schedule...

Seriously speaking though, folks, when you go to Bikram Yoga, everyone is practically in short shorts/tank tops or bare chested (men). No one is paying attention to what you look like or how your body looks...the mental is no where in that sphere of things. SO...before you do any kind of Yoga, get your mind right. If you go into a Yoga class where someone (even you) is worried about who is cute and who smells and who is looking at you, don't go. Yoga is a mind-body-soul exercise and everything has to be in tune for you to reap the true benefits. Real Talk. |

seelah, thanks for the info...my girl tried to convince me in atl, but when i finally had the loot to go w/ her, she had stopped going because she was pregnant....i love doing regular yoga though, so i'm sure i'll take a bikram class...regular yoga makes me sweat like a fool, but i always feel so much better afterwards....i can only imagine how good bikram would feel

what in the hell was i thinking when i booked my trip back home for the holidays? TEN DAYS with MY FAMILY in BATON ROUGE????!!!!! how on earth will i make it through???? sweet jesus

um...girl bring some with u....wrap it up in zip lock and put it in ur panties...they aint gonna have no dogs sniffin u, and metal detectors are not to detect trees on a plane...i done brought shit back with me from jamaica...2 good not 2 share with my peeps
